Back End Engineer

Description

Our Technology team is growing and we'd love you to grow with us. We're looking for Backend Engineers to help meaningfully scale our technology platform in support of our ambitious goals. In this role, you'll take a leading hand in backend systems and services delivering high quality development, contributing to our architectural direction, and building robust technical solutions across the product lifecycle. Alongside your core focus on backend engineering and system design, you'll support other developers, contribute to technical decision making, and help foster a culture where engineering best practices are understood and shared. You'll be a skilled individual contributor and a collaborative technical champion someone who enjoys working closely with cross functional teams to build scalable, efficient, and resilient systems using modern frameworks and tools.

Responsibilities
  • Lead by example as a hands on backend developer, contributing to high quality, production grade codebases
  • Shape backend architecture and system design with a focus on scalability, reliability, security, and performance
  • Build and maintain RESTful APIs, microservices, and server side logic using modern backend frameworks
  • Mentor and support other engineers, championing code quality through thoughtful reviews and shared best practices
  • Partner with product, data, and platform teams to design and deliver backend solutions that serve real business needs
  • Improve application performance, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement robust monitoring and logging solutions
  • Contribute to DevOps processes, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation
Requirements
  • Solid experience with Node.js, Express.js, or similar backend frameworks
  • Strong background in designing and building RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed backend systems
  • Comfortable working with SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL) or NoSQL (MongoDB) databases, including schema design and optimisation
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI) and familiarity with containerisation tools like Docker
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and infrastructure-as-code would be a bonus
  • You do your best work as part of a team and genuinely enjoy collaborating across disciplines

  • Excellent written and verbal English skills
