Manager Banking Operations
This role involves taking ownership of work that provides a competitive edge. The successful candidate will lead and manage a shift-based team of approximately 30 team members, ensuring full shift coverage and a strong leadership presence. They will oversee day-to-day floor operations, including workload allocation, escalation handling, and real-time problem-solving. The role also ensures that reconciliation, payment processing, and exception handling processes are executed accurately and on time. Monitoring and managing KPIs, SLAs, and quality metrics, and driving corrective actions where needed, are key aspects. Building and scaling the team through effective hiring, onboarding, and workforce planning, as well as developing team leads and supervisors, ensuring clear accountability and escalation structures, are also important. Managing rosters, shift schedules, leave planning, and overtime to maintain consistent operational coverage is required. Identifying process inefficiencies or risks and partnering with engineering and product teams to drive improvements is expected. Fostering a culture of discipline, accountability, and continuous improvement, and collaborating with Product, Finance, and other stakeholders to ensure operational readiness for new launches and markets are also part of the responsibilities. - 5+ years experience in banking, payments, or financial services operations (required).
- At least 2+ years managing large teams (15+ people) in a shift-based environment (required).
- Proven ability to build, scale, and develop high-performing operational teams (required).
- Strong understanding of reconciliation, payment processing, and exception handling workflows (required).
- Demonstrated ability to enforce process discipline and operational excellence at scale (required).
- Experience managing rosters and shift coverage in a 24/7 or extended-hours environment (required).
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across Product, Finance, and leadership teams (required).
- Data-driven mindset, with experience working with performance metrics and reporting dashboards (required).
- Resilience, adaptability, and a hands-on leadership approach (required).
- Experience working across multiple African markets in banking or payments (nice-to-have).
- Exposure to reconciliation or automation tools (e.g. AutoRek, Duco, ReconArt, BlackLine) (nice-to-have).
- A formal qualification in operations management, business, or finance (nice-to-have).
