Head of SEO - DACH

Description

We are looking for a Head of SEO who can lead the strategic, operational, and cross-functional direction of our SEO function across all markets, with a particular emphasis on the DACH region, which represents the core of our business. This role involves owning the global SEO strategy, building and running the full SEO roadmap, and setting direction across content, technical, and off-page SEO initiatives. The Head of SEO will align SEO work tightly to business goals, translate SEO insights into business-first narratives, and lead and mentor the SEO team. The position also requires building scalable SEO processes, owning reporting frameworks and KPIs, and leading SEO for new portal launches from inception to commercial viability.

Responsibilities
  • Own the global SEO strategy, with deep market ownership for DACH.
  • Build and run the full SEO roadmap, prioritised by revenue impact, delivery speed, and risk.
  • Set direction across content, technical, and off-page SEO initiatives across markets.
  • Align SEO work tightly to business goals (revenue, volume, and quality).
  • Translate SEO into business-first narratives for leadership and non-SEO teams; build visibility so SEO isn’t a “black box.”
  • Run structured communication loops (weekly/monthly/quarterly), including proactive updates, risk assessments, and postmortems.
  • Lead and mentor the SEO team (DACH + English), setting standards for ownership, communication, and performance.
  • Build scalable SEO processes for research, briefing, execution, QA, and publication; drive continuous improvement via experimentation and retrospectives.
  • Own reporting frameworks and KPIs (organic sessions, CTR, rankings, revenue attribution) and maintain clear, consumable SEO documentation.
  • Lead SEO for new portal launches from zero: SEO-first structure, topical authority + internal linking strategy, early content velocity, and milestone plans (0–6–12–24 months) to commercial viability.
Requirements
  • 5–8+ years in SEO, including at least 2 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Proven experience managing SEO teams and/or leading cross-functional SEO initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to scale organic traffic and revenue in highly competitive niches.
  • Background in marketplaces, affiliates, or large content ecosystems is strongly preferred.
  • Strong technical SEO fundamentals: crawling/indexing, site structure, schema, speed, internal linking, and content quality signals.
  • Hands-on with key tools and analytics stack: Google Search Console, Ahrefs, Semrush, GA, Looker (or equivalent).
  • Confident presenting to C-level and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Able to translate complex SEO insights into clear, decisive business recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; clarity and structure are non-negotiable.
  • Experience mentoring/upskilling SEO talent and building a performance-driven, accountable, collaborative culture, including scaling new/greenfield sites to meaningful organic growth.
Benefits
  • Full remote working offered through contractor agreement OR Hybrid working setup with a flexible work environment
  • Company events in Malta organised and paid for by WIS for EU employees – twice a year
  • Access to learning platforms and educational support offered to boost your knowledge and career
