Engineering Manager

Description

As an Engineering Manager at Trustly, you will play a crucial role in leading and supporting an agile team of talented engineers. Working closely with product managers, lead developers, and other stakeholders, you’ll ensure delivery of high-quality, scalable, and reliable systems while fostering a positive and empowering team culture. Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership : Lead, coach, and support a team of engineers, enabling them to perform at their best while fostering a culture of collaboration, ownership, and continuous learning
  • Delivery Excellence : Drive successful delivery of the team’s commitments, ensuring alignment with domain objectives and product goals
  • Technical Collaboration : Work hands-on with lead developers and engineers to design, implement, and maintain scalable systems and solutions aligned with Trustly’s technical standards
  • Product Partnership : Work closely with the product manager to define and prioritise the team’s roadmap, balancing short-term goals with long-term vision
  • Operational Ownership : Ensure your team’s systems operate reliably in production, with high performance, availability, and maintainability
  • Talent Development : Recruit, onboard, and mentor engineers, creating an environment where they can grow and thrive
  • Process Improvement : Advocate for and implement best practices in agile methodologies, DevOps, and engineering processes to continuously improve team effectiveness
Requirements
  • Proven experience managing engineering teams in agile environments, with a strong focus on team empowerment and delivery
  • Hands-on engineering background with expertise in Java and experience in building scalable, robust systems
  • Familiarity with modern tech stacks including Kubernetes, Docker, Kafka, and Spring Boot
  • Experience working with cloud solutions (preferably AWS), monitoring, and analytics
  • Knowledge of service-based architecture and microservices
  • Strong ability to balance technical decisions with business needs, ensuring delivery without sacrificing scalability, performance, or reliability
  • Committed to fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence
  • Passion for DevOps practices and ownership, with a track record of driving improvements in automation and monitoring
  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
  • Fluent in English
