AI Team Leader

Description

Evoke is building the platform that enables AI across the organisation. The team is responsible for the core integration layer that allows AI engineering teams to safely and efficiently connect with Evoke's existing platforms and services. They develop the APIs, platform capabilities, and reusable components that expose legacy systems in a consistent, secure, and scalable way, enabling AI applications to consume business functionality without needing to understand the complexity of the underlying estate.

Rather than building AI models themselves, the team focuses on creating the engineering foundations that accelerate AI delivery across the business. This includes modernising integrations, expanding platform capabilities, defining standardised interfaces, and building reusable services that enable AI teams to develop production-ready solutions faster. The technology stack is primarily C#/.NET with supporting Node.js services, operating in a highly regulated environment where reliability, security, observability, and maintainability are critical.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and grow a cross-functional team of software engineers and QA engineers responsible for the AI Enablement Platform.
  • Own the technical strategy and roadmap for the platform that exposes Evoke's legacy capabilities to AI engineering teams.
  • Design, build and evolve scalable APIs, services and integration layers using C#/.NET and Node.js.
  • Modernise existing platform capabilities to provide secure, reliable and well-documented interfaces for AI consumers.
  • Build reusable platform components that accelerate AI development across multiple product teams.
  • Define standards for API design, authentication, observability, versioning and platform governance.
  • Collaborate closely with AI engineering teams to understand integration requirements and deliver platform capabilities that enable new AI use cases.
  • Work with architects and domain teams to simplify access to legacy systems while maintaining security, compliance and operational resilience.
  • Drive engineering excellence across software development, testing, CI/CD, infrastructure automation and operational support.
  • Lead production support, incident management and root cause analysis, ensuring platform reliability and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor engineers and QA specialists, fostering technical excellence, collaboration and ownership.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies-including AI integration standards such as Model Context Protocol (MCP), agent interoperability patterns and API technologies-to improve the platform while maintaining a pragmatic production-first mindset.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (required).
  • Proven experience leading high-performing software engineering teams, including engineers working across multiple technology stacks and architectural domains (required).
  • Demonstrated success managing engineering teams delivering complex platform or enterprise software in large-scale organisations (required).
  • Strong software engineering background with experience designing distributed systems, APIs, microservices and platform services using C#/.NET (required).
  • Experience with Node.js is beneficial (preferred).
  • Proven experience delivering complex, production-grade systems end-to-end, ideally in distributed or high-scale environments (required).
  • Understanding of how AI applications integrate with enterprise platforms, including API-driven architectures, secure access patterns and the challenges of exposing business capabilities to AI systems (required).
  • Solid software engineering foundations, including system design, code quality, testing strategies, CI/CD, and observability (required).
  • Experience working in regulated or high-trust environments is a strong advantage (preferred).
  • Strong leadership skills, with a track record of building, mentoring, and scaling high-performing engineering teams (required).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align technical and non-technical audiences (required).
Benefits
  • Competitive salary
  • Hybrid working: Employees can work from home up to 80% of the time with 20% of office time built in.
  • 22 annual leave days, plus bank holidays and an extra day for your birthday.
  • eLearning opportunities.
  • Industry-leading maternity and paternity leave and paid time off if you have caring responsibilities.
  • Tools and services to help support your well-being, including support with mental health and financial education.
  • Gym discounts.
  • Comprehensive healthcare benefits.
