Description

This role involves defining and leading the platform strategy across all markets, moving from fragmented solutions to a scalable, modular architecture. It requires establishing clear success metrics across conversion, cost, performance, and reliability.

The position oversees the full banking product lifecycle, including deposits, withdrawals, integrations, reconciliation, and tooling. It ensures consistently high standards in product delivery, documentation, and execution across multiple workstreams.

The role involves leading and scaling a high-performing team, managing and developing leads across Delivery, Front-End Platform, and Back Office & Tooling. It also requires building strong leadership capability and fostering accountability, ownership, and product excellence.

Driving vendor and payment ecosystem strategy is key, involving ownership of relationships with banks, payment providers, aggregators, and acquirers. This includes leading provider selection, onboarding, commercial negotiations, and SLA management.

Execution across multiple African markets is essential, ensuring effective delivery across South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia, Botswana, Mozambique, Malawi, and Tanzania. The role balances local regulatory and customer needs with long-term platform scalability.

Operational and financial performance are driven by improvements in deposit success rates, withdrawal speed, cost efficiency, and provider performance. This includes partnering with Finance and Operations to optimise reconciliation, settlement, and risk management.

Governance, risk, and compliance are maintained through full compliance with all regulatory and licensing requirements across jurisdictions. This involves working closely with Legal and Compliance to ensure proactive risk management.

Influence at the executive level is also a component, acting as the senior banking product voice, presenting strategy, performance, and investment cases to leadership and Exco. Shaping cross-functional priorities and strategic direction through insight and credibility is expected.

Responsibilities
  • Define and lead platform strategy.

  • Own product and platform execution.
  • Oversee the full banking product lifecycle including deposits, withdrawals, integrations, reconciliation, and tooling.
  • Ensure consistently high standards in product delivery, documentation, and execution across multiple workstreams.
  • Lead and scale a high-performing team.
  • Manage and develop a team of Leads across Delivery, Front-End Platform, and Back Office & Tooling.
  • Build strong leadership capability and foster accountability, ownership, and product excellence across the function.

Requirements
  • Clear, confident communication and the ability to translate complexity into strategic direction (required).
  • Strong leadership capability, with experience managing multi-layered teams and developing future leaders (required).
  • Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple high-impact initiatives simultaneously (required).
  • A highly analytical mindset, using data to drive decisions and measure success (required).
  • Adaptability and resilience in fast-moving, high-complexity environments (required).
  • 10 - 12+ years’ experience in Product, Payments, Fintech, or Banking (required).
  • Deep understanding of payment ecosystems (deposits, withdrawals, reconciliation, settlement, failure handling) (required).
  • Proven experience leading large-scale platform products and cross-functional teams (required).
  • Strong commercial acumen with clear understanding of payments impact on P&L (required).
  • Experience operating across multiple markets or regions (required).
  • Track record of influencing senior stakeholders and driving strategic outcomes (required).
  • Experience within African payments ecosystems and market-specific methods (nice-to-have).
  • Background in iGaming, betting, or regulated digital platforms (nice-to-have).
  • Exposure to payment orchestration, Merchant of Record (MOR), or acquiring models (nice-to-have).
  • Experience building or scaling payment infrastructure platforms (nice-to-have).
  • Strong understanding of reconciliation processes and operational finance workflows (nice-to-have).
