Description

Super Group Africa is seeking a Head of Legal for East and West Africa to lead and manage the legal function across the jurisdictions in which Betway operates. The role holder will provide strategic and commercially focused legal support to the business, acting as a trusted advisor to senior management. The Head of Legal will safeguard the organisation's legal interests while enabling commercial objectives and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements across the relevant jurisdictions.

Responsibilities
  • Provide accurate, practical and commercially sound legal advice to the business across the East and West African jurisdictions.
  • Draft, review, negotiate and manage a broad range of commercial agreements, including supplier, partnership, licensing, marketing and technology contracts.
  • Advise on regulatory and licensing requirements applicable to online gambling, sports betting and iGaming operations within the relevant jurisdictions.
  • Identify, assess and manage legal risk, and develop strategies to mitigate exposure to the business.
  • Support corporate transactions, market entry initiatives and expansion activities across East and West Africa.
  • Instruct, manage and coordinate external legal counsel across multiple jurisdictions, controlling cost and quality of legal services.
  • Support the development and implementation of legal policies, processes and standards across the region.
  • Collaborate with compliance, commercial, finance and operational teams to deliver business objectives.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments across the relevant jurisdictions and advise the business on their impact.
  • Report to the Director: Legal and Compliance on material legal matters, risks and disputes.
Requirements

  • Admitted attorney (or equivalent legal professional qualification) in good standing (required)
  • A minimum of five (5) years' post-qualification experience (PQE) (required)
  • Demonstrable working experience in the East and West African jurisdictions (required)
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to align legal advice with business objectives (required)
  • Proven experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements (required)
  • Completed LLB degree (required)
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills (required)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability (required)
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and priorities across several jurisdictions (required)
  • Sound commercial judgement and a pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach (required)
  • Ability to work independently and to influence at a senior level (required)
  • High standards of integrity, professionalism and confidentiality (required)
  • Experience in the online gambling, sports betting or iGaming sector (nice-to-have)
  • Experience in the online gaming, betting, technology, digital media, fintech, or highly regulated industries (nice-to-have)
