Description

Super Group is seeking a Head of Tax - Advisory and New Markets to provide expert tax advisory support for market entry, geographic expansion, and new business initiatives across multiple jurisdictions. The role involves acting as a business partner to Strategy, Legal, Finance, Commercial, Treasury, and Operations teams, embedding tax input into planning and execution stages.

The successful candidate will advise on legal entity structuring, operating models, and value chain design while assessing and managing various risks such as PE and POEM, and cross-border operational tax exposure. This position requires translating technical tax rules into clear, commercially practical guidance for non-tax stakeholders and supporting the business through mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, funding arrangements, intra-group transactions, and exits from a tax advisory perspective.

Responsibilities
  • Provide tax advisory support for market entry, geographic expansion, and new business initiatives across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Act as a business partner to Strategy, Legal, Finance, Commercial, Treasury, and Operations teams, embedding tax input into planning and execution stages.
  • Translate technical tax rules into clear, commercially practical guidance for non-tax stakeholders.
  • Advise on legal entity structuring, operating models, and value chain design in both established and new markets.
  • Assess and manage various risks such as PE and POEM, and cross-border operational tax exposure.
  • Support decisions around centralisation, outsourcing, IP use, and intercompany arrangements from a tax perspective.
  • Assess corporate income tax, withholding tax, indirect tax, and other cross-border tax implications of business activities.
  • Support mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, funding arrangements, intra-group transactions, and exits from a tax advisory perspective.
  • Participate in tax due diligence processes, identifying risks, opportunities, and integration considerations.
  • Identify, evaluate, and advise on tax incentives, exemptions, concessions, and special tax regimes applicable to new markets or investments.
  • Support applications, structuring, and ongoing compliance considerations relating to incentives and preferential regimes.
  • Balance tax efficiency with reputational, operational, and governance considerations.
  • Identify emerging tax risks associated with new products, markets, or ways of operating.
  • Provide technical input on complex interpretative issues escalated by the business or other tax team members.
  • Support the Tax Director with impact assessments and recommendations on complex tax matters.
  • Ensure advisory outcomes are aligned with group tax policies, risk appetite, and governance frameworks.
  • Collaborate with other tax team portfolios to ensure consistent implementation of agreed positions.
  • Contribute to the development of internal tax guidance and advisory templates to improve efficiency and consistency.
Requirements
  • Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) and/or Registered Tax Practitioner / Master’s Degree in Taxation or equivalent professional tax qualification (required)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, Law, or a related discipline (required)
  • 10+ years of progressive tax experience within a multinational group, professional services firm, or international tax environment (required)
  • Significant experience in international and cross-border taxation (required)
  • Proven experience advising on corporate structuring, new market expansion, transactions, and operating model design (required)
  • Demonstrated track record of providing tax advisory support to senior executives and business leadership teams (required)
  • Experience managing complex tax risk assessments and technical tax matters across multiple jurisdictions (required)
  • Strong knowledge of international taxation and cross-border tax principles (preferred)
  • Deep understanding of corporate income tax, withholding taxes, indirect taxes, transfer pricing, and tax treaty application (preferred)
  • Knowledge of PE, POEM, hybrid mismatch provisions, and OECD tax developments (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of tax governance and risk management frameworks (preferred)
  • Commercial awareness and ability to balance tax, operational, and strategic considerations (preferred)
  • Ability to interpret complex legislation and apply it pragmatically within business contexts (preferred)
  • Experience within online gaming, technology, digital services, financial services, or similarly complex multinational industries (preferred)
  • Exposure to tax aspects of business integrations, and large-scale transformation initiatives (preferred)
  • International tax qualification or specialized postgraduate qualification in International Tax (nice-to-have)
  • Transfer Pricing, M&A, or cross-border tax experience (nice-to-have)
