Operations Manager
Super Group is seeking an Operations Manager for Betway Tanzania. This role is responsible for the end-to-end operational performance of Betway's sports betting and casino business in Tanzania. The Operations Manager will drive customer experience, digital operations, regulatory compliance, and payments efficiency.
The individual will be a hands-on operator with strong commercial instincts, ensuring the day-to-day business runs smoothly while driving efficiency and compliance in a regulated, mobile-first betting and casino market.
- Own the daily operational performance of Betway Tanzania's sports betting and casino business, including call centre, and digital channels.
- Ensure digital platforms are fully operational, compliant, and delivering a seamless customer experience.
- Manage escalations relating to trading, payments, customer service, and platform issues, coordinating with regional and global teams to resolve quickly.
- Monitor uptime, transaction flow, and payment processing performance across mobile money, bank, and cash channels.
- Ensure full operational compliance with the Gaming Board of Tanzania (GBT) licence conditions, tax obligations, and reporting requirements.
- Maintain accurate operational records and support timely submission of regulatory returns.
- Work closely with Legal & Compliance to implement responsible gambling controls and KYC/AML procedures at operational level.
- Support licence renewals, audits, and inspections by the regulator and other authorities.
- Manage relationships with landlords, agents, and third-party operational partners.
- Drive operational cost efficiency across the business, including staffing, security, and petty cash.
- Manage day-to-day relationships with payment service providers and mobile money partners to ensure reliable deposit and withdrawal flows.
- Support fund repatriation, cash reconciliation, and float management processes.
- Partner with Finance on tax reporting, withholding tax processes, and cost control initiatives.
- Ensure customer service standards are met across call centre, and digital touchpoints.
- Feed local market insights into product, marketing, and trading teams to improve the sports and casino offering.
- Support execution of sponsorship and marketing activations at an operational level, including Simba SC-related activity.
- Lead, coach, and develop the local operations team, including call centre staff.
- Act as a key point of coordination between the Tanzania country team and East Hub leadership.
- Build strong working relationships with regulators, payment partners, landlords, and community stakeholders.
- A minimum of 5 years' operations management experience, ideally within sports betting, casino, or a regulated consumer-facing industry (required).
- Strong understanding of retail and/or digital operations, including shop network or contact centre management (required).
- Working knowledge of Tanzanian gaming regulations, licensing requirements, and tax obligations (required).
- Experience managing payment processes, including mobile money and banking channel reconciliation (required).
- Strong people leadership skills, with experience managing frontline and supervisory teams (required).
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure (required).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Swahili (required).
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including experience working with regulators and external partners (required).
- In-depth knowledge of sports betting markets, including odds calculation, betting types and market trends (nice-to-have).
- Previous experience in the online gaming or casino industry, with a strong understanding of player behaviour and industry regulations (nice-to-have).
- Familiarity with gambling regulations and compliance requirements in various jurisdictions, ensuring adherence to legal standards (nice-to-have).
- Experience with mobile money ecosystems (e.g. M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa, Airtel Money) (nice-to-have).
- Experience in sponsorship or marketing activation execution (nice-to-have).
- Exposure to responsible gambling and AML/KYC frameworks (nice-to-have).
