Tax Specialist: Projects & Administration
The company is seeking a Tax Specialist: Projects and Administration to play a key part in supporting the delivery of ensuring that the company meets its tax compliance obligations across multiple jurisdictions. This includes assisting with the preparation of tax calculations and tax returns, assisting with tax audits, and ensuring compliance with changing tax laws and regulations.
The role involves taking ownership of work that gives the company its competitive edge, including tax compliance and calculations, filing of operational tax returns, managing the tax compliance calendar, monitoring changes in tax legislation, and assisting with tax audits.
Additional responsibilities include updating group tax matrixes, assisting with audit and corporate governance, working effectively as a team, and providing assistance for various ad-hoc tax duties and general administration.
- Assist in quarterly calculation of direct taxes.
- Work closely with the Tax Compliance Specialists to ensure that all applicable taxes, including corporate income taxes, indirect taxes and gaming taxes are accurately calculated and reported timeously.
- Assist the Tax Compliance Specialists with the calculation of indirect taxes related to the gaming and operational activities of the company. This includes taxes such as gaming tax, VAT (Value Added Tax), withholding tax (WHT), local VAT, reverse VAT, excise tax, and levies.
- Assist the Tax Compliance Specialists to ensure that all indirect tax calculations are accurate and compliant with local laws and regulations.
- Submit and file periodic indirect, gaming and operational tax returns for all relevant entities.
- Ensure compliance with local tax regulations for each jurisdiction and ensure submissions are done on a weekly and/or monthly basis.
- Maintain tax profiles for all relevant entities on revenue authority portals.
- Assist with managing and updating the tax compliance calendar for all periodic tax filings.
- Assist with ensuring that all deadlines for tax returns and payments are met in a timely manner.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and investigate any anomalies that may arise.
- Stay up to date with relevant tax laws, regulations, and potential changes in the tax landscape that could affect the business.
- Assist Tax Compliance Specialists / Manager by providing ongoing support to internal and external tax audits.
- Assist the Tax Compliance Specialists / Manager with the gathering, preparation and submission of necessary information relating to internal and external tax audits.
- Assist in the updating of the group’s tax matrixes.
- Ensure that the information in the tax matrix reflects accurately on the company’s tax position.
- Communicate any updates where necessary to Tax Compliance Specialist / Manager.
- Assist with the preparation of the quarterly and annual audit files and providing audit evidence.
- Ensure that all controls are adhered to and documented for SOX compliance.
- Effectively work as a team with relevant team members.
- Communicate clearly and effectively at all levels, both internally and externally, to ensure expectations are met and potential problems are escalated timely.
- Provide assistance and support for various tax-related projects and administrative matters as needed. This may include research, gathering information, or providing insights on different tax issues that arise.
- Update and maintain tax trackers, tax project registers and tax compliance registers.
- Collating / uploading accounting information to tax consultants supporting preparation of tax computations.
- Draft process notes detailing how and why monthly tasks are performed to ensure business continuity.
- Archive all financial information.
- Assist with raising tickets to resolve and improve issues / errors within the tax system and to update workflows following changes within the business.
- General administration related to the entities responsible for.
- Assist with other ad hoc tasks as requested by the team from time to time.
- Certificate or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Tax or related field (required)
- 1-3 years accounting and tax experience in a similar role (required)
- Experience in tax accounting / calculations, tax compliance and tax administrative management (required)
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills and MS Word (required)
- Expertise in managing multiple projects simultaneously, with a track record of delivering on time and within scope (required)
- Clear, confident communication (written and verbal), and the ability to breakdown complex ideas (required)
- A collaborative mindset, working smoothly with cross functional teams to hit shared goals (required)
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects without dropping the ball (required)

- SOX and / or AFS experience (nice-to-have)
- Experience in working with tax software - Thompson Reuters Orbitax and OneSource Provisioning Tool or Aibidia (nice-to-have)
- Experience in Microsoft Dynamics Navision or Business Central (nice-to-have)
- Experience in FloQast (nice-to-have)
- Experience in IBM Planning Analytics / TM1 / Cognos (nice-to-have)
