Software Engineer III
Betway is looking for a Software Engineer III to join their team in Pretoria, South Africa. This role focuses on backend software development within the online gaming sector, requiring a high level of technical expertise in building and maintaining microservices at an enterprise scale.
The successful candidate will be expected to influence architectural decisions, mentor team members, and lead system optimisation efforts. The role demands a strong ownership mindset and the ability to navigate complex production environments while maintaining high standards of software quality and craftsmanship.
- Build and maintain microservices at enterprise scale.
- Demonstrated impact on architectural decisions, mentorship, and system optimization.
- Lead design discussions and influence architecture without formal authority.
- Experience leading incident response, post-mortems, and operational improvement efforts.
- Maintain composure and lead through high-severity production challenges.
- 7+ years of backend software development experience (required).
- Expert-level proficiency in .NET 8+ and C# 12+ (required).
- Strong experience with Dapper / EF Core (required).
- Advanced SQL Server skills: query tuning, indexing, execution plans, statistics (required).
- Deep understanding of ACID, isolation levels, deadlocks, sharding, and partitioning (required).
- Elasticsearch experience (nice-to-have).
- Microservices design: boundaries, communication patterns, service reliability (required).
- Event-driven architecture: RabbitMQ, Kafka, or Azure Service Bus (required).
- API design (REST / gRPC), backward compatibility, and versioning strategies (required).
- Advanced Azure DevOps pipeline design and release management (required).
- Experience with logging, tracing, and performance monitoring (OpenTelemetry) (nice-to-have).
- Deep experience with testing automation across all testing layers (required).
- Strong understanding of SOLID principles, design patterns, and refactoring practices (required).
- Excellent technical communication and ability to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences (required).
