Software Engineering Manager
Super Group Africa is looking for an Engineering Manager to play a key part in delivering a high-performing engineering team that ships great Super Group Africa products. The role involves leading, coaching, and growing engineers, owning delivery for the team, and partnering with product and senior leadership to get the right things built.
The successful candidate will be responsible for setting the bar for engineering quality, reliability, and operability while fostering an engaged and focused team environment where people feel safe to challenge, learn, and stretch. This position requires a balance of technical leadership and people management to drive performance and resilience within a fast-paced development environment.

- Lead, coach and grow a team of software engineers.

- Own delivery for your team end to end.
- Partner with product to plan, prioritise and deliver a healthy mix of features, platform work and improvements.
- Track progress, surface risks early and clear blockers, without micromanaging the engineers doing the work.
- Be accountable for the quality, reliability and operability of what your team owns.
- Set the bar for engineering quality, testing and ways of working within your team, and uphold it.
- Lead your team through incidents and post-mortems, and drive lasting improvements in performance, resilience and on-call health.
- Hire, onboard and shape the team you need.
- Lead hiring loops for your team, championing a high bar and a fair, inclusive process.
- Design strong onboarding so new engineers ramp up fast and feel part of the team from day one.
- Partner with product, QA and engineering leadership to do the right things.
- Work closely with product owners, QA and design to shape roadmaps that balance customer impact, technical health and team capacity.
- Represent your team in wider engineering conversations and contribute to the technical and people strategy across SGA Development.

- Proven experience leading software engineering teams (typically 5+ years in engineering plus 2+ years as a people manager), with a track record of growing engineers and shipping consistently (required).
- Strong technical foundations from a hands-on software engineering background, with enough depth to make good architectural and trade-off calls without writing day-to-day production code yourself (required).
- In-depth knowledge of sports betting markets, including odds calculation, betting types and market trends (nice-to-have).
- Previous experience in the online gaming or casino industry, with a strong understanding of player behaviour and industry regulations (nice-to-have).
- Familiarity with gambling regulations and compliance requirements in various jurisdictions, ensuring adherence to legal standards (nice-to-have).
- Experience in developing and executing customer retention strategies (nice-to-have).
- Experience leading agile teams in a fast-paced, product-driven environment, ideally across multiple squads or a multi-disciplinary team (nice-to-have).
- Experience in regulated industries such as iGaming, fintech or banking, and familiarity with modern cloud, CI/CD and observability practices (nice-to-have).
