Data Science Manager
FanDuel is looking for a Data Science Manager for its Sports Modeling & Innovation team to tackle challenging sports modeling problems. Throughout the lifecycle of a model, from data collection through results, the manager will create predictive models of sports to build tools and dashboards, price markets, and drive actionable insights across FanDuel Group. The role involves working closely with the product and risk and trading teams, modeling player performance, team performance, and game outcomes. This position will also manage and develop other data scientists, promote effective communication of model outputs, and contribute to a collaborative code environment.
- Develop, iterate, and take to production machine learning models to predict sports outcomes and solve problems.
- Iterate and improve on betting product range to ensure market leading offering.
- Continuous improvement in pricing techniques - both at an individual level and working with trading teams to optimize predictive and derivative model pricing.
- Manage a group of Data Scientists to develop production-ready models and solve company-wide challenges.
- Choose appropriate tools, systems and models to solve large data problems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve coding and modeling problems presented by others.
- Proactively seek opportunities or problems to be analyzed.
- Put together project plans for the Data Science team to follow.
- Present to senior leaders confidently and with impact.
- Construct models, analyses and solutions in response to a question or problem posed by a stakeholder or colleague.
- Manage the data preparation process from collection through cleaning.
- Build robust predictive models, showing capabilities of feature and model selection.
- Contribute to a production code environment.
- Work with decision-makers across the company to understand their goals, identify opportunities to use data to develop new insights and improve business results.
- Create dashboards and data visualizations for analysis and communication.
- Identify, grow and develop top talent within the Data Science organization.
- Lead regular forums within or across teams to ensure key decisions and conclusions are disseminated and understood.
- Make significant contributions to, sets agenda for and helps steer large group meetings.
- Determine inefficiencies in ways of working and seeks to solve them.
- Minimum of 5 years of industry experience in data science, analytics or engineering (preferred).
- Bachelor's Degree in a highly numerate major (Math, Stats, Econ, etc.) or relevant experience in data science (preferred).
- Experience managing or mentoring other data scientists or analysts (required).
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with high proficiency in Python or R, and SQL (or coding language of choice) (required).
- Strong understanding and application of Bayesian statistics (required).
- Expert in building and using models to help create production level products and tools (required).
- Proficient with command line tools and GitHub (required).
- Object-oriented design and coding skills (required).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills - present findings and analysis to senior management, being totally accountable for the entire agenda of the projects owned (required).
- Help the stakeholders in understanding the business KPIs (required).
- Bring efficiency and automation in the data infrastructure (required).
- Ability to work across teams, locations and time zones (required).
- Willing to work nontraditional hours when applicable (required).
- Interest or experience in Sports Gaming and/or Fantasy Sports (required).
