This role focuses on the Access pillar, which manages registration, authentication, user identity, and verification journeys across the company's Sportsbook, Casino, Racing, and Daily Fantasy Sports platforms. The engineer will be responsible for building a world-class login experience while maturing security measures to detect and prevent unauthorised account activity.

As a Senior Software Engineer, the individual will work within empowered, multidisciplinary teams to tackle complex technical challenges. The role involves designing, building, and maintaining stable, performant, and secure software. The engineer will be expected to mentor junior team members, participate in design and scoping discussions, and contribute to the continuous improvement of team processes and software quality.

  • Make appropriate implementation trade-off decisions.
  • Participate in team design, scoping, and prioritisation discussions.
  • Learn the business context and technologies behind the team's software.
  • Work effectively with other team members and identify opportunities/problems arising from technical decisions.
  • Invent, refine, and develop solutions to ensure they meet customer needs and team goals.
  • Advocate for the customer.
  • Solve difficult problems, applying appropriate technologies and best practices.
  • Work with the team to invent, design, and build software that is stable and performant.
  • Consider the legacy of the code produced and write code that an engineer unfamiliar with the system can understand.
  • Create flexible software without over-engineering.
  • Make appropriate trade-offs, re-use where possible, and be judicious about introducing dependencies.
  • Be efficient with resource usage (e.g., system hardware, database, memory/CPU, etc.).
  • Own parts of product and technology and strive to become a subject matter expert.
  • Write simple and extendable code following standards and best practices.
  • Test code thoroughly.
  • Help balance customer requirements with team requirements.
  • Lead projects and mentor more junior Engineers across FanDuel.
  • Actively participate in the code review process, design discussions, team planning, and support ticket reviews.
  • Take on projects and make software enhancements that improve team software and processes.
  • Resolve the root cause of complex problems, leaving software better and easier to maintain than when found.
  • Estimate stories/tasks accurately and deliver them in time.
  • Keep up to date with industry tools, utilities, and open-source frameworks.
Requirements
  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or a related software engineering field, or 4+ years of relevant work experience (preferred).
  • Strong experience writing distributed, highly scalable, and available backend systems & APIs using Java, Python or similar programming languages (required).
  • Experience with AI tools such as Cursor, Claude AI, or Microsoft Copilot (required).
  • Experience with full stacks, single-page applications and/or micro frontends (required).
  • Experience working with cloud-based infrastructure and technologies, preferably AWS (required).
  • Understanding DevOps concepts such as containers (e.g., Docker), orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., CloudFormation and/or Terraform) (required).
  • Familiarity with observability/monitoring tools (e.g., Datadog) (required).
  • A fundamental understanding of data structures and algorithms (required).
  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive (required).
  • Demonstrated abilities driving operational excellence and software best practices (required).
  • Expertise with testing concepts, test tools, and integrating testing and best practices in the SDLC (required).
  • Experience with native mobile development on iOS and/or Android (e.g., Swift, Kotlin, React Native) (nice-to-have).
  • Experience with experimentation/product analytics tools (e.g., Amplitude) (nice-to-have).
Benefits
  • Health plans to choose from (some as low as $0 per paycheck) that include programs for fertility and family planning, mental health support, and fitness benefits.
  • Generous paid time off (PTO & sick leave).
