Data Engineer
Flutter International is looking for a Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain data pipelines that ingest, transform, and serve data within a cloud-based data lakehouse. The role involves working as part of a data engineering squad to deliver reliable, well-governed data products that support analytics, reporting, and downstream AI/ML consumption.
The Data Engineer collaborates with product, analytics, and data science teams to ensure data models accurately represent poker gameplay, player activity, and commercial metrics. This position requires strong technical skills combined with a focus on data quality and governance. The role follows a hybrid working model, allowing for a combination of home and office-based work.
- Design, build, and maintain batch and streaming data pipelines that ingest data from event streams, transform it through structured layers, and serve it to downstream consumers.
- Develop and maintain core data models providing a single source of truth for poker gameplay, player activity, and commercial metrics.
- Ensure data pipelines are idempotent, well-tested, and monitored with appropriate alerting.
- Contribute to data platform governance including data cataloguing, access control configuration, and data quality monitoring.
- Maintain infrastructure-as-code definitions for data pipeline resources and platform configuration.
- Participate in squad ceremonies and collaborate with product, analytics, and data science teams to gather and refine data requirements.
- Support downstream consumers in understanding available data products and their appropriate use.
- Experience building data pipelines in a cloud-based data lakehouse or data warehouse environment, including both batch and streaming ingestion patterns (required).
- Strong skills in Python and SQL for data transformation, processing, and pipeline development (required).
- Experience with event-driven data ingestion from streaming platforms, including schema management and consumer group coordination (required).
- Solid understanding of data modelling concepts including star schema, medallion architecture, and slowly changing dimensions (required).
- Ability to work collaboratively within an Agile squad alongside product, analytics, and engineering colleagues (required).
- Experience with Databricks, including notebooks, jobs, and Unity Catalog for data governance (nice-to-have).
- Familiarity with Kafka for stream ingestion and real-time data product consumption (nice-to-have).
- Experience with Terraform for data infrastructure provisioning and environment management (nice-to-have).
- Background with Protobuf or similar schema serialisation formats for structured event data (nice-to-have).
- Experience in regulated or B2B platform environments where data compliance and auditability are important (nice-to-have).
