Senior Software Engineer, Fan Engagement
Genius Sports is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Fan Engagement team. The role involves leading the technical execution of projects and contributing to the development of a backend system that powers fan-facing content and manages both live and postgame sports data.
The successful candidate will own system design decisions, drive delivery across multiple workstreams, and partner with product and design teams to shape solutions. Additionally, the role requires mentoring engineers and raising the technical standards across the team.
- Lead the design and delivery of complex features or systems with measurable impact.
- Own system architecture and make informed technical decisions that balance scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Drive execution across multiple sprints, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
- Collaborate closely with product managers and designers to influence scope, requirements, and user outcomes.
- Identify technical risks and proactively develop mitigation strategies.
- Establish and promote best practices in code quality, testing, observability, and system reliability.
- Mentor and guide engineers through technical challenges, design discussions, and career growth.
- Lead and facilitate technical discussions, contributing to alignment across the team.
- Improve team processes, tooling, and development practices to increase effectiveness.
- Experience designing and delivering production systems in a professional or comparable environment (required).
- Strong proficiency with the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) (required).
- Experience with Kotlin or Spring (preferred).
- Experience owning system design and contributing to architectural decisions, with a strong understanding of scalability, performance, and reliability principles (required).
- Proven ability to lead technical execution of projects from concept to delivery (required).
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and make sound technical decisions (required).
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver user-focused outcomes (required).
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts and trade-offs (required).
- Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to team development practices (required).
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English (required).
- Experience working with cloud systems, with experience specifically with AWS or Kubernetes being a plus (nice-to-have).
- Experience leading multi-sprint or cross-team initiatives (nice-to-have).
- Familiarity with distributed systems and large-scale architectures (nice-to-have).
- Exposure to defining or improving engineering standards, tooling, or processes (nice-to-have).
