Software Engineer, Ad-Tech
Genius Sports is seeking a Software Engineer III who possesses deep technical expertise, strong ownership, and a continuous learning mindset. The role involves operating effectively across problem spaces, leading through influence, and helping to shape both the technical direction and engineering culture.
The successful candidate will be trusted to take on complex, ambiguous problems and drive them to successful outcomes while applying Agile software development best practices. Genius Sports values engineers who can adapt quickly, learn new technologies as needed, and focus on delivering meaningful impact. The engineer will be expected to provide technical leadership, make pragmatic decisions, and balance short-term delivery with long-term system health in an environment that prioritises data-driven decision-making and experimentation.
- Contribute to the design, development, and evolution of robust data platforms and backend systems and services.
- Grow into a technical authority within and across teams, influencing architectural decisions and setting engineering standards.
- Collaborate closely with data engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to define system boundaries, APIs, processes, and long-term technical direction.
- Drive improvements in performance, scalability, reliability, and operability across critical systems.
- Design and implement efficient, resilient data storage and data access patterns.
- Write high-quality, maintainable code and advocate for best practices in code quality, testing, and documentation.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex production issues, including leading root-cause analysis and preventative improvements.
- Champion continuous improvement by evaluating new technologies, tools, and approaches where they provide clear value.
- Grow into a mentor and coach for engineers across teams, supporting technical growth and raising the overall engineering bar.
- Strong proficiency with multiple programming languages (Rust, Kotlin, and Typescript) (required)
- Experience with architectural patterns and building scalable systems (required)
- Proven ability to solve complex problems and make sound technical decisions in ambiguous situations (required)
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences and mentor others (required)
- Fluency with agentic frameworks and AI-driven software development workflows (preferred)
- Experience working with containers and cloud-native environments (preferred)
- Experience working with Large Data (preferred)
- Experience working with Distributed Systems (preferred)
- TDD and Spec Driven Development (preferred)
- Experience with AdTech solutions applied to SSPs and DSPs (preferred)
