BI Analyst
The Business Intelligence Analyst transforms operational, financial and performance data into reliable reporting, meaningful insight and actionable business information across the operational business units supported by Winning Form Operations. The role works across the complete data-to-decision lifecycle, from understanding business requirements and assessing source data to extracting, transforming, modelling, validating and presenting information.
This position combines business analysis and stakeholder engagement with hands-on delivery across Power BI, SQL, advanced Excel, ETL/ELT, Python or equivalent scripting, API integration, data quality and operational reporting. The role maintains business-critical reporting continuity while improving the scalability, control, efficiency and maintainability of the reporting environment.
- Gather, profile, clean, analyse and interpret large operational, financial and performance datasets to produce reliable business insight.
- Design, build, maintain and optimise Power BI reports, dashboards, analytical views and ad hoc exception reports.
- Use Power Query and DAX to create controlled transformations, calculations, measures and analytical logic.
- Develop governed Excel reporting solutions using Power Query, PivotTables, structured formulas, data validation, data models, visuals and appropriate automation.
- Build reports that clearly communicate trends, exceptions, performance drivers, risks and required decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Conduct financial analysis to support budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
- Configure and support Power BI Service publishing, workspaces and scheduled refreshes.
- Test reporting solutions against agreed requirements, optimise performance and maintain appropriate release, change and version records.
- Work with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and translate them into clear data, reporting, metric and functional requirements.
- Present findings and actionable recommendations through live reporting, written outputs and stakeholder engagements.
- Track and measure the effectiveness of business initiatives through structured performance analysis.
- Identify operational trends, exceptions, root causes and improvement opportunities.
- Identify suitable source systems, database tables, APIs, files and business-owned datasets for each reporting solution.
- Write and maintain SQL queries to extract, join, filter, aggregate and validate operational data from relational databases.
- Design and maintain repeatable ETL/ELT processes using SQL, Python, Power Query or other approved tools.
- Automate recurring data preparation, report generation and approved distribution.
- Troubleshoot failed refreshes, schema changes, unavailable sources, mapping issues and broken transformation logic.
- Design and maintain fact tables, dimension tables, lookup and mapping tables, keys, relationships, hierarchies and reusable measures.
- Develop and optimize data flows for forecasting, trend analysis, scenario planning and accessible ad hoc reporting.
- Establish checks for completeness, accuracy, duplicates, mapping integrity, expected ranges and period consistency.
- Partner with Operations, Finance, Sales, F&B, Fleet, Procurement, HR-related data owners, IT, BET Software and relevant external providers to deliver analytical support.
- Facilitate workshops and meetings with operational leaders, report consumers, subject-matter experts and data owners.
- Review business and reporting workflows to identify unnecessary manual activity, duplication, fragile processes and avoidable delays.
- Provide project-management support for reporting, analytics, automation and data-integration initiatives.
- Produce accurate daily, weekly and monthly management reporting.
- Matric (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Data Science, or related field (preferred)
- Minimum three years of practical experience in a BI Analyst, Data Analyst, Reporting Analyst, Analytics Engineer, Junior Data Engineer or closely related role (required)
- Advanced experience in Power BI, including DAX, data modelling, and building complex dashboards (required)
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, power query, data modelling, and automation (VBA/Macros) (required)
- Data visualization expertise (required)
- Familiarity with other data analytics tools such as Tableau or Qlik (nice-to-have)
- Understanding statistical analysis and data mining techniques (required)
- Experience developing and supporting production reporting solutions (required)
- Strong SQL querying skills and practical experience with SQL Server, PostgreSQL or a comparable relational database (required)
- Practical ETL/ELT design and implementation across multiple data sources (required)
- Practical dimensional-modelling experience (required)
- Experience troubleshooting refresh, schema, mapping, transformation and source-data failures (required)
- Ability to automate reporting processes using Python or an equivalent scripting technology (required)
- Knowledge of REST API integration, Power BI Service administration, data warehousing, data marts or lakehouse concepts (required)
- Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric, Azure data services, SSIS or comparable integration platforms (required)
- Knowledge of Git or equivalent version control (required)
- Exposure to OLAP or cube-based sources, Firebird, MariaDB, SSAS, SSRS, Meta Graph API, custom connectors (nice-to-have)
