Staff Software Engineer
Legend is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help shape the performance, quality and technical evolution of one of its core customer-facing comparison platforms. Working closely with Product and Engineering, the successful candidate will lead optimisation initiatives across areas such as Core Web Vitals, application architecture and platform performance, while delivering new features that support the future roadmap.
The role involves driving the technical evolution of the platform to improve performance, scalability and maintainability. The engineer will take ownership of technical audits, identifying opportunities to reduce complexity and modernise legacy systems, and champion engineering best practices through hands-on development and mentoring.
- Drive the technical evolution of the platform, improving performance, scalability and maintainability across comparison products.
- Lead optimisation initiatives focused on Core Web Vitals, page performance, caching strategies and technical architecture.
- Partner closely with Product and Engineering teams to deliver high-quality features that support key project roadmaps.
- Take ownership of technical audits, identifying opportunities to reduce complexity and modernise legacy systems.
- Champion engineering best practices through hands-on development, thoughtful code reviews and mentoring.
- Experience building and maintaining large-scale, customer-facing web applications. (required)
- Strong PHP development experience alongside modern JavaScript frameworks such as React. (required)
- A strong understanding of web performance optimisation, including Core Web Vitals, page rendering, caching strategies and application architecture. (required)
- Experience conducting technical audits and translating findings into practical engineering improvements. (required)
- A product engineering mindset, balancing technical quality with customer and business outcomes. (required)
- Confidence working within legacy systems, identifying opportunities to simplify architecture while delivering incremental improvements. (required)
- Comfortable challenging technical approaches and collaborating with stakeholders to find the right solution. (required)
- Knowledge of SEO-focused or high-traffic content platforms. (nice-to-have)
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS) and observability tooling. (nice-to-have)
- Starting salary from 3000 EUR per month.
