Senior Backend Engineer
Midnite is looking for skilled Senior Backend Engineers to join its engineering team. The role involves building and maintaining the backend systems that power the product experience, developing APIs that support mobile and web applications, and delivering robust, maintainable code within a fast-paced, daily deployment environment.
Engineers will work with a backend primarily built in Python running on AWS. While experience with the specific technology stack is a plus, the company prioritises strong backend fundamentals and a commitment to high engineering standards over specific domain experience in gaming or casinos.
- Own the full backend lifecycle by designing, developing, testing, monitoring and maintaining backend services.
- Build clean, efficient, and well-documented APIs for web and mobile applications.
- Champion code quality by writing maintainable code with a focus on reliability, scalability, and performance.
- Raise the engineering bar by participating in code reviews and upholding the quality and consistency of the codebase.
- Shape technical direction by contributing to architectural decisions and broader technical strategy.
- Collaborate across teams and partners by working closely with engineers, product teams, and external vendors to integrate third-party systems.
- Ship features and improvements with confidence and speed in a continuous deployment environment.
- Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies.
- 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience building and operating production systems at scale (required).
- Strong proficiency in Python or another backend language with a willingness to learn Python (required).
- Strong experience designing, building, and operating event-driven architectures using messaging and streaming technologies such as Kafka (required).
- Proven track record of designing, delivering, and owning significant backend systems from conception through to production (required).
- Strong understanding of system design, distributed systems, scalability, reliability, performance, and observability (required).
- Experience working with PostgreSQL and caching technologies such as Redis (required).
- Comfortable building and operating cloud-native applications on AWS (required).
- Demonstrated ability to take ownership of problems end-to-end, driving solutions from discovery and design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing operation (required).
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with experience working closely with product, design, and engineering stakeholders (required).
- A pragmatic approach to software engineering, balancing technical excellence with delivering value to customers (required).
- Salary of £90,000 - £110,000 per annum.
