Database Engineer
Playtech is looking for a proactive Database Engineer with exceptional analytical thinking and multitasking skills to join its Bingo unit.
The role involves supporting production, development, and test database environments. Collaboration with the team is key to designing, building, and scaling database solutions for growth, security, and resilience. The Database Engineer will assist development and testing teams with the rollout of scheduled releases, and will plan, implement, and monitor database deployments and upgrades.
Performance monitoring, analysis, load testing, and tuning are essential aspects of the role. Support for Oracle-to-Postgres data migrations will be required. The engineer will develop complex queries, extract data, and create bespoke reports to support business needs. Identifying and implementing improvements and automation across database and development processes is also a key responsibility. DBA-related tasks will be performed as needed to support the stability of environments.
- Support production, development, and test database environments.
- Collaborate with the team to design, build, and scale database solutions for growth, security, and resilience.
- Assist development and testing teams with the rollout of scheduled releases.
- Plan, implement, and monitor database deployments and upgrades.
- Monitor database performance and carry out performance analysis, load testing, and tuning.
- Support Oracle-to-Postgres data migrations.
- Develop complex queries, extract data, and create bespoke reports to support business needs.
- Identify and implement improvements and automation across database and development processes.
- Perform DBA-related tasks as needed to support the stability of environments.
- 4+ years of relevant experience as a Database Engineer or in a similar database-focused role (preferred).
- Hands-on production database experience with Oracle and/or PostgreSQL (required).
- Strong SQL skills, including experience with PL/SQL as well as shell scripting (required).
- Ability to work confidently with reporting, complex querying, data extracts, and performance troubleshooting (required).
- Experience using and implementing database monitoring tools (required).
- Understanding of zero-downtime database deployments (required).
- Strong logical and analytical thinking, close attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities (required).
- Good communication skills, ability to work collaboratively, take initiative, and follow tasks through to completion (required).
- Confident use of English in day-to-day work (required).
- Experience with other databases (nice-to-have).
- Familiarity with backup and recovery technologies such as RMAN and Data Guard (nice-to-have).
