Tech Lead - Game Framework

Description

Push Gaming is looking for a Tech Lead to own the technical direction of its shared client framework. This framework is the foundation for every slot game shipped, encompassing the rendering engine, slot mechanics, templates, player panel, and build tooling.

The role involves transforming this framework into a true internal product with versioned packages, clear contracts, and proper documentation. This ensures that fixes are applied universally and new games can be built efficiently from templates.

This is a hands-on position where the Tech Lead will spend most of their time coding, with additional focus on architecture decisions, code reviews, and mentoring. Reporting directly to the Head of Game Development, there is no line management responsibility. The Tech Lead will be the senior engineer on a small, focused team.

Responsibilities
  • Set and document the technical direction of the framework, including the engine, shared slot mechanics and templates, the player panel, developer tooling, and CI checks.
  • Design and evolve shared packages that several game teams depend on, ensuring they are backwards compatible by default, with clear deprecation paths and migration notes.
  • Build the tooling that allows for the fast and safe production of game variants and reskins from a common base.
  • Own the code review bar for the framework and mentor the developers around you through reviews, pairing, and design discussions.
  • Act as the framework's technical contact for the game teams who use it and for the server-side engineers.
  • Provide honest estimates and risk assessments; call out technical debt and propose how to sequence it.
  • Write down decisions, standards, and package READMEs, as documentation is considered part of the completed work.
Requirements
  • Expert experience with TypeScript and a PixiJS-class rendering engine (PixiJS v8 is the stack) (required).
  • Experience in slot or iGaming client development, including server-authoritative outcomes, RTP variants, and certification constraints (required).
  • Experience building and maintaining shared libraries, SDKs, or engines used by multiple teams, covering API design, versioning, and backward compatibility (required).
  • A track record of shipping complex commercial games and solving hard technical problems (required).
  • Strong debugging, profiling, and performance work across devices (required).
  • Ability to drive technical decisions with people who do not report to you (required).
  • Typically 5+ years in game client development, including time in a senior technical role (required).
  • Experience with build pipelines and CI (GitHub Actions) (nice-to-have).
  • Experience with automated testing of game clients (unit, integration, or visual regression tests) (nice-to-have).
  • Experience with monorepos or multi-package setups (npm workspaces, Lerna, Turborepo, Nx, or similar) (nice-to-have).
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools in day-to-day work (nice-to-have).
