Senior Product Designer

Description

Smarkets is looking for a Senior Product Designer to help set the product direction and build core experiences from the ground up. This role offers significant autonomy, requiring a designer who thrives in open, undefined territory and can bring structure and craft to complex problems.

The successful candidate will work closely with leadership, product, and engineering teams to own the design process end to end. This involves understanding user needs, shaping product narratives, and shipping precise, well-considered interfaces for prediction and betting markets.

Responsibilities
  • Define and drive design work from scratch while identifying necessary tasks and raising the quality bar.
  • Design products that solve problems in a simple and elegant way, managing every detail from wire-framing to end-to-end flows and prototypes.
  • Make powerful tools for prediction and betting markets feel accessible, intuitive, and engaging.
  • Prototype concepts using tools like Figma, Cursor, and light code to validate assumptions and refine interfaces based on feedback.
  • Develop insights through user research, behaviour analysis, and guerrilla or customer testing workshops.
  • Enhance the design system for products to ensure cohesion as they grow.
  • Act as a force-multiplier by modelling great thinking, process, and collaboration across the company.
Requirements
  • 6+ years designing consumer products, ideally at early-stage companies (required)
  • Portfolio demonstrating systemic thinking and attention to detail (required)
  • Expertise in iOS, Android, and web design (required)
  • Strong visual and interaction skills with fluency in Figma and AI-coding tools like Cursor or v0 (required)
  • Clear, thoughtful communication skills (required)
  • Strong sense of ownership and ability to navigate ambiguity (required)
  • Strategic product thinking and the ability to articulate design logic (required)
  • Understanding of the technical implications of design choices (required)
  • Focus on UX and an understanding of human behaviour (required)
  • Clean visual aesthetic with a mastery of typography and grids (required)
  • Passion for complex problem-solving (required)
  • Experience in fintech, crypto, or data-intensive products (nice-to-have)
  • Formal design education (nice-to-have)
Benefits
  • Stock options vesting over 4 years
  • Competitive pension scheme via Aviva with up to 6% matched contributions
  • Comprehensive health insurance
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity leave
  • Fresh, chef-made breakfast and lunch daily, plus snacks and drinks
  • Cycle-to-work scheme
  • £1,000 annual education budget for learning and development
  • 25 days paid leave plus bank holidays, with the option to carry over 5 days
  • Hybrid working model with 3 days in the office and 2 days from home
  • Regular team socials, hackathons, and events
