Test Automation Engineer Senior
SOFTSWISS is hiring a Senior Test Automation Engineer to join their Data Platform team within the Data Office department. The role involves designing and implementing automated tests to validate data accuracy and pipeline reliability, while partnering closely with Data Engineers and QA Engineers.
The successful candidate will work effectively within a fully agile environment, collaborating with senior engineers while demonstrating the ability to own tasks independently. Responsibilities include reviewing and analysing business requirements and technical specifications to ensure testability, clarity, and early bug prevention, as well as performing comprehensive testing of new features, including manual testing and the development of automated scenarios using Gherkin syntax with the existing automation framework. The role also requires creating and maintaining appropriate QA documentation for the team and collaborating with other products regarding the functionality of implemented solutions.
- Work effectively within a fully agile environment, collaborating with senior engineers while demonstrating the ability to own tasks independently.
- Review and analyze business requirements and technical specifications in collaboration with BAs and developers to ensure testability, clarity, and early bug prevention.
- Perform comprehensive testing of new features including manual testing and the development of automated scenarios with Gherkin syntax using existing automation framework.
- Create and maintain appropriate QA documentation for the team.
- Collaborate with other products regarding functionality of implemented solutions.
- 5+ years of experience in software quality assurance (required)
- Strong understanding of test design techniques to ensure optimal test coverage (required)
- Solid knowledge of any programming language (Java, C#, Python, or Typescript) (required)
- Strong understanding of SQL; ability to write complex SQL queries (joins, aggregations, groupings) for deep-level data validation (required)
- Professional experience with Spark and Spark SQL (Spark jobs, DataFrames/Datasets, data querying) (required)
- Experience with Delta Lake or/and with any of its implementations (required)
- Understanding of Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) concepts and hands-on experience with frameworks like Cucumber, SpecFlow, or similar (required)
- Strong knowledge of Git (branching, merging, rebasing, resolving conflicts) (required)
- Good understanding of containerization (running, inspecting and troubleshooting) (required)
- Hands-on experience using AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or specialized QA agents) to accelerate test case generation, bug analysis, and script writing (required)
- Proactive communication skills with B1+ proficiency in both English and Russian (required)
- Strong troubleshooting skills and debugging skills for data discrepancies (required)
- Basic knowledge of Scala programming language (nice-to-have)
- Experience with Apache Airflow (nice-to-have)
- Basic experience with Apache Kafka for testing event-driven systems (nice-to-have)
- Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g., GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or similar), including interpreting pipeline failures (nice-to-have)
- Ability to write and interpret Bash scripts for task automation and environment setup (nice-to-have)
- Familiarity with AI Agents, Skills, and MCP (nice-to-have)
