The Live Data unit is responsible for the development, delivery, and global distribution of real-time sports data across a diverse range of sporting events. Within Scout Admin, the team develops and maintains the core administrative platform that powers the management of scouts, events, and data collection workflows. This system is critical for ensuring that scouts worldwide can seamlessly register, prepare, and manage their coverage of live sporting events, directly supporting the quality and reliability of the Live Data ecosystem.

As an Engineering Manager in the Scout Admin team, the role involves leading and guiding the engineering organisation, nurturing a culture of collaboration, communication, and coordination between and within teams. The manager will leverage prior experience as an individual contributor and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of complex systems to make technology and product decisions. Support with the implementation of modern product development techniques resulting in clean code, robust architectural choices, and quality baked in will be crucial.

Responsibilities
  • Leading a team of talented software engineers with different levels of expertise, managing other managers, and maintaining a focus on the domain and technology stack.
  • Working collaboratively with product managers, other leaders, and engineers to create the best product for customers.
  • Dedicating a portion of time to hands-on design and development.
  • Coaching engineers to grow in a professional (improving skills, problem-solving abilities) and personal way (by supporting and giving them frequent feedback).
  • Preparing short-term (quarter) and mid-term (year) plans while contributing to the strategic goals and vision of the unit.
  • Being responsible for the growth and happiness of the team members.
  • Ensuring team efficiency and high-quality outcomes: enforce tech excellence, tech debt management, and regular adjustment of processes and practices in line with continuous improvement philosophy.
  • Thinking strategically about the long-term career development of team members.
  • Communicating across cross-functional teams such as Product, Analytics, DevOps, Security, and Design.
  • Leading prioritisation efforts and providing mentoring to others.
  • Understanding how the business works and how products add value to customers.
  • Showing engineers how their work impacts the product (the bigger picture).
  • Learning and sharing experiences on new technologies and trends and how they can be leveraged in current and future products.
  • Collaborating and sharing knowledge with others across the group.
  • Exhibiting passion and driving change.
  • Gaining deep expertise in the workflows and processes that enable real-time sports data collection worldwide.
  • Contributing to architectural decisions and long-term system design.
  • Staying hands-on with code while supporting team members in pair programming and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
