Staff Database Engineer [m/f/d]
Managed Sportsbook Services provides end-to-end sportsbook operations, covering risk management and odds provisioning across supported sports and markets. The service ensures continuous operational support for sportsbook activities, enabling stable and consistent delivery of betting services.
You will take on a staff, hands-on role within the database team, directly supporting the 24/7 operation of MSS and customer databases. You will be actively involved in the design, administration, and support of database systems across development, test, and production environments.
You’ll be expected to take ownership of complex technical work-resolving incidents, delivering technical implementations, and working closely with engineers, project teams, and stakeholders to ensure robust, secure, and high-performing database services under high transaction volumes.
- Take ownership of complex database activities including performance tuning, troubleshooting, migrations, and architecture design.
- Act as a senior technical escalation point for complex incidents, including performance degradation, locking and blocking issues, and data integrity problems.
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to support critical production systems.
- Promote and apply best practices in database administration, tuning, query optimisation, documentation, and automation.
- Perform hands-on installation, configuration, tuning, patching, and upgrading of Oracle 12c/18c/19c on Linux and Windows platforms.
- Ensure optimal performance and availability through proactive monitoring and tuning.
- Design, implement, and maintain backup and recovery strategies using RMAN and Data Guard.
- Create and maintain operational documentation and configuration standards.
- Analyse and optimise SQL queries using execution plans, AWR/ASH reports, SQL Trace, and Oracle Diagnostics Pack.
- Identify and remediate inefficient SQL, poor indexing strategies, and suboptimal optimizer statistics.
- Investigate and resolve locking, blocking, and deadlock scenarios, including root cause analysis and long-term preventative measures.
- Work with application and engineering teams to improve query design, schema structures, and transaction handling.
- Tune memory structures (SGA/PGA), I/O, and resource usage to support high transaction volumes and low-latency workloads.
- Design and implement cloud-based database solutions using AWS RDS and OCI DBaaS.
- Perform hands-on migrations from on-premises to cloud environments using tools such as Oracle GoldenGate.
- Monitor and optimise cloud resource utilisation for performance, cost efficiency, and scalability.
