Staff Software Engineer

Description

The Live Data unit at Sportradar is responsible for the development, delivery, and global distribution of real-time sports data across a diverse range of sporting events. Through strong partnerships with rights holders, media organisations, and betting companies worldwide, the unit ensures the seamless provision of accurate, high-quality data across more than 30 sports disciplines, including e-sports.

The development team based in Wrocław focuses on the In-Game Pipeline, a system for collecting source data either manually captured by scouts during events or generated through AI-driven computer vision technology, and Prediction Markets, a system focused on reducing any latency and providing the ultra-fast feed crafted for client needs.

This role is for a technical leader who wants to shape the direction of an engineering organisation. The individual will define architecture, drive strategy across multiple teams, and have influence that makes the whole platform better. At Sportradar, the problems are real, the scale is global, and the pace is fast. This is not a role for someone who wants to be told what to build.

Responsibilities
  • Define and drive technical architecture and engineering strategy across multiple teams and product areas.
  • Lead the design of scalable, high-performance distributed systems that process millions of real-time events daily.
  • Own complex cross-functional initiatives with significant business impact, from first principles through to production.
  • Set engineering standards, architecture principles, and the long-term technical roadmap for the area.
  • Mentor Senior Engineers and act as the technical anchor for teams working through ambiguous, high-stakes problems.
  • Influence engineering, product, and leadership stakeholders and translate technical strategy into business outcomes.
  • Bring deep expertise in AWS, cloud-native platforms, Kubernetes, and event-driven architectures to decisions at an organisational level.
  • Lead platform modernisation, technical transformation, and large-scale migration initiatives where needed.
Requirements
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience with extensive Java expertise (required).
  • Strong track record in large-scale distributed systems (required).
  • Ability to lead architecture and technical strategy across multiple teams or products (required).
  • Deep expertise in AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and modern platform engineering (required).
  • Experience mentoring Senior Engineers and shaping engineering culture without direct management authority (required).
  • Clear communication skills at every level, from technical deep dives with engineers to strategic conversations with leadership (required).
  • Ability to define engineering standards and long-term roadmaps that teams use (required).
  • Experience in real-time, high-availability systems or mission-critical environments at global scale (preferred).
  • Background in sports technology, betting, fintech, or other highly transactional environments (nice-to-have).
Benefits
  • Collaborative environment with colleagues from all over the world (Engineering offices in Europe, Asia and US).
  • Ability to shape own workday and career via a clearly defined professional and personal development plan.
  • Opportunity to work with the senior leadership team and develop within an inspiring and fast-growing company.
  • Vibrant and inclusive community, including Women in Tech and Pride groups.
  • Flexible working hours.
