Associate Software Engineer
Sportsbet AU is scaling its development team and is seeking a Junior Software Engineer specialising in Java to join the Betting Product Technology team in Melbourne. This role is designed for a backend engineer who is passionate about designing and building reliable, scalable systems within a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
The successful candidate will contribute through hands-on development while helping to uplift engineering standards and drive a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. The role requires a combination of technical capability, sound engineering judgement, and a genuine sense of ownership over the systems being built.
- Design, build and evolve scalable backend services and platforms.
- Deliver high-quality software with a focus on maintainability, reliability and performance.
- Own and improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and DevOps practices.
- Identify and proactively manage technical debt, system risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Experience in Java and Spring Boot (required).
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, microservices and event-driven architecture (required).
- Experience with messaging and streaming technologies such as Kafka (required).
- Working knowledge of AWS, including services such as EC2, ECS, VPC, CloudFormation, CloudWatch and RDS (required).
- Experience with CI/CD, automated testing and engineering tooling such as Docker, Jenkins and Ansible (required).
- Understanding of observability, secure coding and modern software engineering practices (required).
