Senior Legal Counsel
Napoleon's Legal Department is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join their team, reporting directly to the Belgium Legal Director. This is a broad, hands-on role covering corporate, commercial, and regulatory law across all Napoleon business lines, with a particular focus on serving as the primary legal contact for the HR department on social and labour law matters.
The work is varied and substantive, involving the translation of complex legal frameworks into practical guidance that keeps the business moving in the right direction. The successful candidate will work within a close-knit legal team while also engaging directly with stakeholders across the business.
- Advise all lines of business across a wide range of legal areas including gambling law, commercial law, contract law, labour law, and corporate law.
- Act as the go-to legal contact for the HR department and deliver practical, risk-assessed solutions within clear timeframes.
- Draft and review agreements entered into by Napoleon, contributing to the standardisation of legal documentation across the business.
- Manage Napoleon's real estate portfolio and licences, ensuring business continuity and the lawfulness of all related commercial and administrative aspects.
- Coordinate and follow up on claims, disputes, and court cases to ensure Napoleon's interests are properly defended and safeguarded.
- Monitor changes in existing legislation and new legal developments relevant to Napoleon, translating these into clear, actionable guidance for impacted business lines.
- Build legal awareness across the organisation by delivering training, developing templates, and helping departments handle day-to-day matters more autonomously, without losing sight of applicable legal boundaries.
- Master's degree in Law (required).
- 5 to 8 years of professional experience in one or more of the legal fields relevant to this role (gambling, commercial, contract, corporate, or labour law) (required).
- Demonstrable ability to provide practical, business-focused legal advice and translate complex legal matters into clear, usable guidance (required).
- Experience drafting, reviewing, and standardising a range of commercial agreements (required).
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and the ability to monitor and interpret legislative change (required).
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in both Dutch and English (required).
- Ability to work autonomously and manage a varied workload with strong attention to detail (required).
- Comfortable working as part of a close-knit legal team whilst also engaging directly with stakeholders across the business (required).
- Experience in social and labour law (nice-to-have).
- Good working knowledge of French or any other language (nice-to-have).
