Senior Software Engineer (Backend)
The Gaming Platform team at Super owns the core transaction pipeline that powers every gaming interaction across the ecosystem, from spins and sessions to financial transactions. This platform sits at the heart of the gaming architecture, connecting multiple game providers across jurisdictions. The team is responsible for ensuring high reliability, scalability and performance of this critical infrastructure. The system is built on Erlang.
As a Backend Engineer, you will play a key role in building and operating a high-throughput, distributed gaming platform.
- Develop, maintain and optimise internal services powering the gaming ecosystem.
- Deliver new features, resolve bugs and continuously improve performance across Erlang services.
- Integrate and manage configurations for multiple game providers.
- Support provider migrations and upgrades.
- Manage and optimise Kubernetes workloads within AWS.
- Tune system resources (CPU, memory), Kafka configurations, DynamoDB usage and DNS setups.
- Collaborate with SRE teams on cross-platform reliability and scalability.
- Act as an escalation point for production issues.
- Investigate and resolve platform incidents, perform root cause analysis and drive fixes.
- Office hour on-call and out of office hour on-call is possible.
- Monitor and scale platform capacity during high-traffic campaigns.
- Prevent service degradation and ensure seamless player experience under load.
- Support internal teams (Engagement, Content Integrations, Integration teams) with API usage and transaction behaviour.
- Enable features such as free spins, bonus rounds and other gameplay mechanics.
- Contribute to and shape several high-impact initiatives, including: Gaming infrastructure improvements and traffic optimisation, Provider reliability and integration layers, Platform observability and debugging enhancements, Grafana enhancements, AI-driven development improvements.
- Solid understanding of high-availability, low-latency systems (required).
- Strong backend engineering experience in distributed systems (required).
- Experience with Erlang (or willingness to learn) (required).
- Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS) and Kubernetes (required).
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures (e.g. Kafka) (required).
- Strong debugging and incident management skills (required).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-scale production environment (required).
