Platform Database Engineer - Infra
We are seeking ambitious Database Engineers with strong knowledge and experience in database administration, cloud services, and automation to join our Database Administration team. This role involves managing complex database systems within a global technology ecosystem, contributing to the building and management of Database hosting capabilities using Infrastructure as Code for all platform needs. The team's responsibilities span from on-prem servers to cloud servers and DBaaS, focusing on building Database Infrastructure Platforms and providing guidance and tooling for distributed systems. The role requires continuous improvement, tuning, and optimisation of Database platforms based on business needs, as well as analysing, diagnosing, and solving issues of efficiency, performance, and scale in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Building and managing Database hosting capabilities using Infrastructure as Code for all platform needs.
- Managing database capabilities from on-prem servers to cloud servers and DBaaS.
- Building Database Infrastructure Platforms with developers and providing guidance and tooling to handle distributed systems.
- Continuously improving, tuning, and optimising Database platforms capabilities based on business needs.
- Analysing, diagnosing, and solving issues of efficiency, performance, and scale, collaborating cross-functionally with colleagues from different teams.
- Design and manage efficient database schemas.
- Optimise performance.
- Secure data through user authentication, access control, and encryption.
- Support and implement the backup, recovery, and high availability strategies.
- Configure failover and replication.
- Monitor and fine-tune database performance.
- Apply patches and updates.
- Automate routine tasks through scripting.
- Capacity planning and disaster recovery planning ensure scalability and business continuity.
- Proficiency in setting up and administering AWS database services, including SQL and NoSQL databases, both as DBaaS and Elastic Compute models. (required)
- Strong expertise in managing PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases, including administration, optimization, and high availability configurations. (required)
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code using tools like Terraform, with a solid understanding of terraform modules and workflows. (required)
- Configuration management expertise using Ansible or Terraform for cloud infrastructure. (required)
- Familiarity with cloud providers, with a preference for AWS, and deep knowledge of cloud provider services such as Aurora, DynamoDB and RDS. (required)
- Proven experience in building scalable and distributed database infrastructure. (required)
- Skill in version control to manage code changes effectively. (required)
- Familiarity with open-source monitoring tools like Prometheus and Grafana. (preferred)
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, Powershell, or similar. (required)
- Experience in using and managing Linux distributions. (required)
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical issues and provide effective solutions promptly. (required)
- Knowledge of best practices in IT operations, including ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) and DevOps principles. (required)
