Description

FanDuel is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join one of its Core Marketing Platforms teams. The role involves building and optimising high-performance microservices that power FanDuel's marketing ecosystem. The engineer will work on systems enabling critical capabilities such as real-time customer communications, personalised promotions, and targeted campaign delivery.

The work will focus on designing highly scalable, event-driven systems that process large volumes of real-time data, delivering intelligent insights to marketing partners. The engineer will help enable data-driven, personalised experiences for millions of customers across the platform. The role requires working within a modern microservices and event-driven architecture, building Martech solutions enhanced by AI to drive customer engagement and retention. The engineer should take the long-term view and consider system volumes, simplify existing systems, and coach and develop other software engineers' technical skills. They will lead projects with a holistic view of the strategic direction of the vertical, defining the architecture of the future while balancing operational improvements. The engineer will solve complex problems, translate defined designs into code delivered on schedule, and write secure, stable, testable, maintainable code with minimal defects. Participation in team design, scoping, and prioritisation discussions, as well as identifying opportunities and problems arising from technical decisions, is expected. The engineer will also participate in the on-call support rotation for the organisation and contribute to the professional development of colleagues.

Responsibilities
  • Design highly scalable, event-driven systems that process large volumes of real-time data.
  • Build and optimise high-performance microservices for the marketing ecosystem.
  • Simplify existing systems by consolidating redundant components, deleting unnecessary code, or updating documentation.
  • Coach and develop the technical skills of other software engineers.
  • Lead projects with a holistic view of the strategic direction of the vertical.
  • Define the architecture of the future to utilise modern technologies while balancing operational improvements.
  • Solve complex problems and translate defined designs into code delivered on schedule.
  • Write secure, stable, testable, and maintainable code with minimal defects.
  • Participate in team design, scoping, and prioritisation discussions.
  • Identify opportunities and problems arising from technical decisions.
  • Participate in the on-call support rotation for the organisation.
  • Document software to ensure future developers understand the intention behind features and components.
Requirements
  • Degree in Computer Science or a related software engineering field, or equivalent practical experience (required)
  • Strong backend experience with Java (required)
  • Experience with AWS and DevOps concepts such as IaC, specifically Terraform (required)
  • Experience with event streaming technologies such as SNS/SQS or Kafka (required)
  • Good grasp of relational and non-relational databases, messaging queues, and handling concurrency (required)
  • Experience working with high-volume systems (required)
  • Understanding of modern architectures, design patterns, and platform nuances (required)
  • Strong experience working with cloud-based infrastructure, preferably AWS (required)
  • Understanding of containers, such as Docker, and orchestration, such as Kubernetes (required)
  • Expert experience with testing concepts, tools, and integrating best practices into the SDLC (required)
  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive (required)
  • Familiarity working in an Agile environment (required)
  • Passion for working within a fast-paced environment and ability to adapt to change (required)
