Founding Engineer (Flutter)
GR8 Tech is seeking a Founding Engineer (Flutter) to own and drive the frontend mobile architecture across its flagship products. This role will help scale real-time user experiences to millions of active users by delivering high-throughput, low-latency Flutter applications while elevating engineering standards across development teams.
The successful candidate will be responsible for high-level mobile system architecture, defining patterns that keep mobile apps stable, modular, and fast. They will translate business goals into robust technical blueprints, making clear decisions on system trade-offs, and establishing engineering benchmarks for app performance. The role also involves evaluating new mobile technologies, designing and executing migration strategies, and defining security baselines.
Key responsibilities include contributing hands-on code to critical systems, leading incident response, and optimising app performance. The engineer will partner with Product Managers and Team Leads to align technical roadmaps and standardise CI/CD pipelines. Furthermore, they will mentor senior and mid-level engineers, support Team Leads in crafting Personal Development Plans, and drive engineering culture through knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Own high-level mobile system architecture, defining patterns that keep our mobile apps stable, modular, and fast.
- Translate business goals into robust technical blueprints, making clear decisions on system trade-offs.
- Establish engineering benchmarks for app startup times, memory footprint, and frame rates.
- Evaluate new mobile technologies, frameworks, and tools to solve complex scale problems before they impact production.
- Design and execute migration strategies, including native add-to-app integrations, to modernise legacy codebases seamlessly.
- Define and enforce security baselines, including certificate pinning, obfuscation, and anti-tampering logic.
- Contribute hands-on code to critical, high-complexity systems and core framework libraries.
- Lead incident response and root-cause analysis for high-severity mobile production issues.
- Optimise app performance, diagnosing UI/raster jank, memory leaks, and CPU-heavy operations using Dart Isolates.
- Partner with Product Managers, Heads of Streams, and Team Leads to align technical roadmaps with product release schedules.
- Standardise CI/CD pipelines, release automation (fastlane), and store submission processes across all mobile teams.
- Align architectural patterns across cross-functional streams to prevent technical fragmentation.
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, running code reviews that raise the overall quality bar.
- Support Team Leads in crafting technical Personal Development Plans (PDPs) for mobile engineers.
- Drive engineering culture through technical write-ups, architecture reviews, and internal knowledge-sharing sessions.
- 7+ years in commercial software development (required)
- 3+ years dedicated to Flutter/Dart (required)
- Hands-on experience in native iOS (Swift) or Android (Kotlin) (required)
- Proven track record as a Founding Engineer, with hands-on experience designing and architecting large-scale, high-load Enterprise applications from scratch (required)
- Strong history of technical leadership, successfully driving complex mobile products through the full development lifecycle to production deployment (required)
- Strong system design and architectural thinking, paired with deep mastery of Dart internals (isolates, async, null safety) and Flutter's rendering pipeline (required)
- Deep understanding of software engineering best practices, including state management (Bloc or Riverpod), testing (unit, widget, integration), and monorepos (Melos) (required)
- Proven ability to balance technical quality vs delivery speed, taking full ownership and accountability for technical decisions and outcomes (required)
- Hands-on experience with high-frequency real-time data handling (WebSockets, long-lived connections, protobuf/JSON serialization) and mobile security standards (required)
- Effective technical communication skills across engineering and non-engineering stakeholders, with an ability to work smoothly in cross-functional environments (Product, Delivery, Ops) (required)
- Mentorship and people development mindset, with experience guiding engineers through code reviews, technical roadmaps, and personal development planning (required)
- A verifiable portfolio of complex, production-grade applications, where you served as the Primary Architect or Tech Lead (required)
- Hands-on experience with native add-to-app Flutter integration strategies and incremental migrations (nice-to-have)
- Experience building CMS-driven or Server-Driven UI frameworks (nice-to-have)
- Familiarity with dynamic localization, per-market feature toggles, deep linking at scale, and multi-jurisdictional app deployment (nice-to-have)
- Practical experience profiling mobile app performance (DevTools, Impeller engine, jank diagnosis, memory leak isolation) (nice-to-have)
- Familiarity with App Store / Google Play review requirements for gambling and betting applications (nice-to-have)
