Software Development Engineer III - JAVA
Entain is looking for an engineering leader to shape the future of software solutions across backend and frontend domains. This role requires an individual who can specify, orchestrate, validate, and ship software using AI as a primary collaborator within a mission-driven, cross-functional pod. The pod consists of product, engineering, and quality functions, operating with high agency and shared ownership.
This role operates in a hybrid model, requiring two days a week on-site. The role reports to the Tech Lead within the Product and Technology team and focuses on redefining software development through an AI-native setup.
- Deliver against the pod's mission by owning the full software delivery lifecycle including quality, from design through production and measurement.
- Operate in continuous flow using Kanban, pulling work, respecting WIP limits, and shipping daily.
- Use AI agents as the primary delivery mechanism for code generation, testing, spec writing, and deployment.
- Design, build, and debug software across backend and frontend with distributed systems awareness.
- Evaluate and tune agent workflows, including steering docs, prompts, rules, and skills.
- Write clean, well-tested code and take ownership of quality end-to-end.
- Act as the initial on-call responder, ensuring health and stability of deployed applications.
- Mentor junior developers and contribute to shared tooling, knowledge bases, and the agent foundation kit.
- 5+ years of experience in Java (required).
- Working knowledge of Angular (required).
- Proficiency in at least one of: Java/Spring Boot, Python, .NET, Go, and Angular, with the ability to adopt other languages using AI (required).
- Experience with engineering fundamentals including distributed systems, data structures, API design, database concepts, and cloud computing (required).
- Experience with clean code practices, TDD, CI/CD, and version control (required).
- Experience with application monitoring, observability, and production debugging (required).
- Familiarity with Docker/Kubernetes, microservices, and event-driven architectures (required).
- Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools such as code generation, pair programming, and automated testing (required).
- Experience with agent systems, MCP/tool protocols, or building AI-augmented workflows (required).
- Experience designing evaluation or observability strategies for AI outputs (required).
- Contributions to shared tooling, internal platforms, or open-source projects (nice-to-have).
- Background in industries with strict regulatory requirements such as gaming, financial services, or healthcare (nice-to-have).
