Software Engineer
PlayTech's Billing Tech Team is looking for a proactive and motivated Software Engineer to join the team on a part-time basis as Military Leave Cover. In this role, the engineer will contribute to the development and maintenance of Python-based applications, work on both frontend and backend solutions, and participate in different stages of the software development lifecycle. The engineer will collaborate closely with experienced engineers and internal stakeholders to deliver reliable, maintainable, and high-quality solutions.
To ensure a successful onboarding experience and close collaboration with the team, this part-time position requires regular office presence during the probation period. Following the probation period, the role will transition to a hybrid working model, with the office and remote working schedule aligned with the agreed part-time working arrangement.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance Python-based applications while collaborating with team members on solution design and implementation.
- Contribute to the development of both frontend and backend features.
- Participate in different stages of the software development lifecycle.
- Write clean, maintainable, and testable code while continuously developing engineering skills.
- Create and maintain unit tests to support application quality and reliability.
- Assist with application monitoring, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
- Participate in requirements discussions, solution design, and the preparation of technical documentation.
- Provide technical support to internal users when required.
- Work closely with the team to solve technical challenges and deliver high-quality solutions.
- 2+ years of experience in software development (required).
- Solid hands-on experience with Python development and software engineering best practices (required).
- Hands-on experience working with SQL and relational databases (required).
- Experience developing and supporting web applications (required).
- IT-related university degree or equivalent education, or currently studying in a relevant field (required).
- Understanding of core software development principles and basic knowledge of Agile methodologies (required).
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills (required).
- Effective communication in spoken and written English (required).
- Motivated, curious, eager to learn, and comfortable collaborating with others (required).
- Ability to take ownership of assigned tasks and openness to feedback and continuous development (required).
- Basic knowledge or hands-on experience with the Django framework (nice-to-have).
- Familiarity with Oracle databases (nice-to-have).
- Previous practical experience with Python through internships, university projects, personal projects, or commercial development (nice-to-have).
- Basic exposure to both frontend and backend development (nice-to-have).
