Backend Developer
Sportradar is looking for a Backend Developer to implement domain logic and definitions within the system, and collaborate on product requirements by providing feedback and asking the right questions. The role involves building reliable and scalable solutions, aiming for clean implementations that minimise bugs and reduce the need for support or rework.
Sportradar expects the developer to continuously learn, whether it's the business domain, the technologies currently used, or new tools and approaches to explore. The role requires an individual who can actively suggest improvements to technical solutions or domain implementation at any time, especially during team planning sessions and retrospectives.
- Implement domain logic and definitions within the system.
- Collaborate on product requirements by providing feedback and asking the right questions.
- Build reliable and scalable solutions, aiming for clean implementations that minimise bugs and reduce the need for support or rework.
- Continuously learn about the business domain, the technologies used, or new tools and approaches.
- Actively suggest improvements to technical solutions or domain implementation.
- Strong experience with Java (required).
- Solid hands-on experience with Spring Boot (REST APIs, configuration, security basics) (required).
- Good understanding of object-oriented design, clean code, and design principles (SOLID) (required).
- Experience building and maintaining backend services in production environments (required).
- Proficiency working with SQL databases and NoSQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB) - Designing schemas, writing efficient queries, indexing (required).
- Familiarity with Git and modern development workflows (code reviews, pull requests) (required).
- Knowledge of messaging and event driven systems: Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar (required).
- Practical experience using Docker - Building images, local development, containerised services (required).
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices (required).
- Experience writing unit and integration tests (required).
- Able to work independently and take ownership of features from design to production (required).
- Strong problem-solving mindset and attention to detail (required).
- Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non technical stakeholders (required).
- Willingness to mentor less experienced engineers (especially for Senior role) (required).
- Comfortable working in an Agile/Scrum environment (required).
- Proactive attitude and continuous learning mindset (required).
- Exposure to Kubernetes (deployment concepts, Helm, scaling, troubleshooting) (nice-to-have).
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) (nice-to-have).

- Ability to design scalable and maintainable systems (nice-to-have).
- Leading by example in code quality, reviews, and best practice (nice-to-have).
