Senior Engineering Manager
This is a people-and-delivery leadership role responsible for Super's internal service framework - the composable building blocks (service bootstrapping, key-value storage, Kafka streaming, stream processing) and matching Kubernetes operators that power hundreds of production services.
You will lead and grow the team that owns this platform, from 5 engineers to 8+, working alongside two established tech leads who own technical direction whilst you own hiring, growth, delivery, and the stakeholder relationships around it.
- Own the core service framework, covering service runtime, storage and streaming SDKs, and their Kubernetes operators.
- Own the platform CLI and developer-facing tooling ergonomics, including object storage, search, and caching integrations.
- Deliver out-of-the-box observability, alerting, and autoscaling for every service on the platform.
- Own platform uptime and disaster recovery, co-owned with the Infrastructure/SRE organisation.
- Hire and grow the team from 5 to 8+ engineers, onboard recent joiners, and build a growth path for junior engineers, establishing the seniority mix beneath a strong senior core.
- Partner with two tech leads who own technical direction, owning people, hiring, delivery, and stakeholder alignment whilst keeping the split between roles explicit.
- Drive platform reliability and adoption, with success measured by how many teams choose to build on the platform.
- Own the working relationship with the Infrastructure/SRE organisation, including a clear operational ownership boundary for shared infrastructure.
- Track record of growing a backend team through a step change in size, and of developing engineers into tech leads (required).
- Experience leading platform or infrastructure teams serving internal engineering customers (required).
- Enough technical grounding to hold credible architecture conversations about distributed systems, streaming (Kafka or similar), key-value stores, and Kubernetes (required).
- Go experience is valued but depth in this exact stack is not required, since technical direction sits with the tech leads (nice-to-have).
- Skill at managing alongside strong tech leads without role confusion, including more than one on the same team (required).
- Comfort operating in ambiguity, with the ability to help define the shape of the role (required).
- Track record of partnering with SRE/Infrastructure organisations on shared production ownership (required).
- Medical / Health Insurance
- Open Annual Leave
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Training & Learning Development
