Staff Site Reliability Engineer - Cloud Efficiency
The company is looking for a Staff SRE - Cloud Efficiency to own cloud efficiency across its infrastructure platform - thousands of services running on several Kubernetes clusters across multiple regions. This is a hands-on engineering role with real autonomy, sitting at the intersection of the SRE, Product, and Engineering teams. The work done here will directly shape the efficiency and cost posture of the entire platform.
- Own the cloud efficiency roadmap end to end: identify the highest-leverage opportunities, coordinate with owning teams, and execute.
- Partner with the FinOps function to turn their findings into implemented change, and feed engineering-level insight back to them.
- Surface software architectural mismatches that cause inefficiencies that billing analysis alone cannot catch.
- Own commitment and purchasing strategy (Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, and equivalents) in partnership with Platform and FinOps.
- Improve the guardrails, automation, and cost attribution that enable teams to see and own their own spend.
- Drive Kubernetes efficiency at scale: resource hygiene, bin-packing, autoscaling, and right-sizing across multiple clusters.
- Strong SRE or infrastructure engineering background with deep experience operating, debugging, and reasoning about large-scale distributed systems in production (required).
- Demonstrated cloud cost optimisation at scale: commitment strategy, right-sizing, spot/preemptible, autoscaling, storage tiering, and data-transfer/egress - the full surface, not just the obvious line items (required).
- Architectural judgement - the ability to look at a system and identify when the infrastructure is wrong for the workload (over-provisioned, mis-chosen, or carried over from a context that no longer applies) and to propose what it should be instead (required).
- Highly proficient with infrastructure as code; significant experience with AWS (required).
- Familiarity with the cost and performance trade-offs of common data stores (PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, DynamoDB, OpenSearch) - enough to influence which should be used and why (required).
- The interpersonal range to operate across teams you do not own: building rapport, reading the organisation, coordinating before making changes, and influencing without leaning on authority (required).
- Comfortable with both managed services and self-hosted components (required).
- Experience with additional cloud providers (GCP, Azure) (nice-to-have).
- Strong automation skills in Go and/or Python (nice-to-have).
- Experience embedding efficiency and policy guardrails directly into CI/CD pipelines (nice-to-have).
- Medical / Health Insurance
- Open Annual Leave
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Training & Learning Development
