Lead Product Manager, Core Payments

Description

Trustly is seeking a Lead Product Manager for Core Payments to play a critical role in shaping the future of open banking payment solutions. The individual in this role will own and drive product strategy and execution for core payment capabilities, operating at the intersection of product, engineering, banking partners, and commercial teams.

This position is designed for a self-starter with deep payments expertise and a builder mindset. The successful candidate will be responsible for navigating complex challenges and shaping the infrastructure that powers next-generation payment experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Own the roadmap and product requirements for Trustly’s core payment capabilities.
  • Design and launch new payment products and enhance existing ones to drive business growth.
  • Define and own the product strategy for core payments infrastructure including transaction processing, payment routing, funding, reconciliation, and ledger systems.
  • Evaluate and integrate third-party providers (e.g., ODFI’s, processors, acquirers) to optimise cost, reliability, and geographic coverage.
  • Partner with internal teams (Engineering, Legal, Compliance, Sales, etc.) and external stakeholders (banks, processors, and partners) to deliver seamless, scalable solutions.
  • Translate market trends, customer needs, and regulatory shifts into actionable product opportunities.
  • Define and prioritise features through well-crafted user stories, business requirements, and technical scoping.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and risk mitigation strategies are incorporated into product design.
  • Monitor KPIs and product performance, driving continuous improvements and optimisations.
  • Lead discovery processes and collaborate with engineering to identify the most effective technical approaches.
Requirements
  • 8+ years of product management experience, with a focus on payment systems and financial technology (required).
  • Deep understanding of traditional and emerging payment rails (ACH, Wires, RTP, eChecks) (required).
  • Experience working with banking partners and treasury operations (required).
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field (required).
  • Master’s degree or MBA (nice-to-have).
  • Strong technical fluency; comfortable evaluating third-party solutions and collaborating with engineering teams (required).
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills; can translate complex topics for diverse audiences (required).
  • Skilled at navigating ambiguity, prioritising effectively, and making sound decisions quickly (required).
  • Experience in Agile environments with a track record of shipping high-quality products (required).
  • Familiarity with global banking systems, payment regulations, and open banking frameworks (required).
