Game Logic Server Developer
Push Gaming is looking for a Game Logic Server Developer to join its talented team. The successful candidate will be a key player in bringing industry-leading online slot games to life by taking a game concept and building it into a fully working game on the Java code base, owning that product through to release.
Working closely with Game Mathematicians, the developer will build game mechanics and ensure they are balanced, fun, and mathematically sound. As the owner of the final product, the developer will coordinate the necessary tasks to move a game from concept to a released, client-ready title. This role also involves a significant focus on maintaining code health, with time dedicated to improving, refactoring, and modernising the platform. A genuine interest in writing maintainable code and leaving things better than you found them is important.
- Taking a game concept or design specification and building it into a fully working game on the Java code base, owning the server-side game logic from first commit through to release.
- Implementing core game mechanics, reel logic, feature triggers, and bonus flows so they behave exactly as the design intends.
- Building the game mechanics in a clean, well-structured way and passing the game over to the Game Mathematicians for balancing.
- Acting as the owner of the final product, coordinating the work needed to take a game from concept to a released, client-ready title.
- Handling the setup and administrative work around each game so it can be integrated with the client, including configuration, metadata, and the interfaces the client relies on.
- Collaborating closely with Game Mathematicians throughout the project, handing over a solid, well-structured game for balancing and working together to resolve logic or behavioural issues.
- Working alongside Client Developers, Designers, QA Engineers, and Producers to make sure the server implementation lines up with the client, the art, and the intended player experience.
- Integrating with the backend platform, managing game state, and ensuring secure, reliable handling of game rounds and transactions.
- Diagnosing and resolving logic, behavioural, or integration issues raised during development, QA, or from live production environments.
- Writing clean, maintainable, well-structured code, and helping to keep the code base healthy, consistent, and easy to work in.
- Playing an active part in the ongoing improvement of the code base, refactoring, paying down technical debt, and helping shape better patterns, tooling, and development practices as the platform evolves.
- A strong grounding in software development and back-end engineering - whether that comes from iGaming, video games, or elsewhere. (required)
- Strong Java skills, with a solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles and software architecture. (required)
- Confidence designing and structuring game logic in a way that is clean, maintainable, configurable, and easy for others to build on. (required)
- A real commitment to code quality and maintainability, and an appetite for the ongoing work of refactoring and improving an evolving code base. (required)
- Good mathematical and logical reasoning - enough to implement game mechanics accurately and to collaborate effectively with mathematicians on how a game is balanced. (required)
- Proficiency with software design patterns and their application to game or systems development. (required)
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to own a project end-to-end and take responsibility for the quality of the final product. (required)
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues. (required)
- Proficiency with Git, distributed version control, and branching strategies. (required)
- Experience working in an Agile Scrum environment. (required)
- Familiarity with project management tools like Jira / ClickUp. (required)
- An understanding of slot mechanics and iGaming regulatory considerations. (nice-to-have)
- Tools and support to allow individuals to grow and thrive.
- Environment built around trust, collaboration, transparency, and accountability.
